The 'Boundaries' piece is a deceptively complex artistic addition to Nicholas Yust's Pure Metal Artwork Series. The layered, geometric grind pattern requires a lot of careful planning and preparation, and extremely close attention to detail. Although it is somewhat of an abstract design, there is a very clear structure in place with the criss-crossing, plaid-like pattern. Without the appropriate caution and expertise, the balance and integrity of the design can be flawed and ruined, and when creating metal wall art such as this, there is no eraser or whitewash to start fresh...
Upon close inspection the viewer finds that Boundaries features a broad range of grinding techniques and textures on its' metallic surface. It is truly remarkable that the artist is able to maintain such a steady hand in order to create smooth, consistent lines using a high-powered grinding machine which would be clumsy and sloppy in less-experienced hands. Using artistic metal grinding skills that he has developed through endless days and sleepless nights for nearly 15 years, Nicholas is able to create dramatically different grind textures in strategic layers to create a holographic effect. Boundaries looks like some sort of thatched fiber that your eyes will believe to be 3D and emerging through the surface of the metal artwork.
The variations in grinding methods gives this metal sculpture a very exciting surface that is interesting to behold. The strong geometric lines make this a perfect fit in contemporary or minimalist interiors of homes, offices or hospitality settings. The concise lines and even structure of the pattern allows the piece to accommodate any ultra-modern environment, while having a comfortable simplicity (more of a toned-down abstract metal art) allowing it to fit in with more classical decor as well.
