May 2009 - Heat-Tinted Sculptures

Header

How does Nicholas Yust create his Heat-Tinted Metal Art?

Using various ultra-high heat torches, he super-heats the metal to bring out the natural colors you see in the finished product. He uses Stainless Steel and Copper primarily, and it is clear that they bring out very unique, completely organic shades of orange, red, gray, purple, blue and yellow. It is a difficult process, as too much or too little heat will not produce the right tones.

Depending on the style of the sculpture, the panels will either be sheared or plasma-cut after receiving their signature grind pattern. Each step of the process is meticulously executed by the artist, Nicholas Yust. The Heat-Tinted sculptures represent just one of the many styles that Nicholas has mastered.
