Meet Nicholas & Other Artists at The Shadyside Art Festival

Planners of this weekend's Shadyside Arts Festival aren't superstitious.

"We want this to be a lucky number 13," says Katy Caliguiri, Shadyside Chamber of Commerce coordinator. "This is our big event of the year. The merchants and community team up and treat this like a hallmark event. It is everyone joining together that makes it successful."

Walnut Street will transform into a living, breathing art gallery on Saturday and Sunday with more than 150 exhibitors from around the nation and locally. This is a juried show, which means each participating artist is hand-selected from hundreds of applicants. Exhibiting artists are required to be at the show the entire weekend.

..."This is an end-of-summer ritual every year," says festival promoter Howard Alan. "There's always a great turnout and the support of businesses and the community is great. It also helps that Pittsburgh is an arts-educated city. They love art shows. What is great about this show is you will get to meet the person who inspired the work. And you can ask them how they made the piece. We are looking forward to it because Pittsburghers ask intelligent questions about art and this is a quality art show."
